Sri Lanka produced a dominant display to outclass Oman by 105 runs in Match 16 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Opting to bat first, the Islanders racked up an imposing 225/5 in their allotted 20 overs, immediately seizing control of the contest. Oman’s response never gathered real momentum, despite a fighting unbeaten half-century from Mohammad Nadeem, as they were restricted to 120/9. The emphatic margin of victory significantly strengthened Sri Lanka’s standing in Group B and reinforced their growing confidence in the tournament.

After losing Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishara early, Sri Lanka rebuilt through Kusal Mendis, who crafted a steady 61 off 45 balls to anchor the innings. The tempo shifted dramatically when Pavan Rathnayake launched a fierce counterattack, smashing 60 from just 28 deliveries. His aggressive intent dismantled Oman’s bowling plans and lifted the scoring rate through the middle overs. With a solid platform established, Sri Lanka were perfectly placed to unleash further fireworks in the closing stages of the innings.

Captain Dasun Shanaka then provided the late surge, hammering 50 off only 20 balls, including five towering sixes that pushed the total beyond reach. Quick contributions from Kamindu Mendis and Dunith Wellalage added the finishing touches. In reply, Oman struggled against disciplined bowling, with Maheesh Theekshana’s economical spell and early strikes from Dushmantha Chameera setting the tone. Regular wickets halted any resistance, and Sri Lanka’s clinical all-round performance underlined their authority in a comprehensive victory.
