Top 3 player battles to watch out for in ENG vs PAK

The Super Eights encounter between England and Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled for February 24 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele. Both teams are in good form heading into this encounter. England, with Harry Brook leading the way, will be pleased with their group-stage success of three wins out of four matches which saw them qualify easily for the Super Eight after a convincing 51-run victory over Sri Lanka. England, riding high with momentum, would virtually confirm their place in the semifinals with a win today.

Pakistan had also performed well at the group stage by winning all four of their matches and finishing second in Pool B. However, when they opened up the Super Eight stage against New Zealand, they had no chance to pull off a win as rain caused the match to be abandoned and both teams received one point. For Pakistan, this match represents an opportunity to show their full potential once again. Getting two points against England, who are one of the stronger sides in the tournament, will significantly enhance their chances of advancing in this tournament.

1) Sahibzada Farhan vs Jofra Archer

The upcoming match between England and Pakistan in the Super Eight at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium will provide an interesting contest between Sahibzada Farhan and Jofra Archer. To date, they have not met in a T20 International, making it an exciting match-up. Farhan has been in excellent form throughout the tournament, leading all players with 220 runs in five innings. Also impressive has been Farhan’s ability to get off to a good start in the batting order with two runs per ball. However, he has been out in his previous match, scoring zero runs against India.

Farhan has been instrumental in contributing positively to Pakistan’s aggressive approach to the start of their innings. He will present a challenge to the English team as they will have to try to contain Farhan’s aggressive style with Jofra Archer as the main weapon in his arsenal. Jofra has done an admirable job so far in leading the English bowling attack, including producing a sparkling spell against Sri Lanka in the Super Eight. Moreover, he has also produced early wicket-taking breakthroughs during the powerplay, disrupting the other team’s batters during this phase. Since Farhan and Archer have never played against each other in T20Is, this will be a compelling duel to witness during the course of the game.

2) Babar Azam vs Adil Rashid

Babar Azam and Adil Rashid are clashing for the 12th time in T20 Internationals, and it will be another chapter in a fascinating rivalry between these two players. In total against the leg-spinner, throughout 11 innings, Babar has scored 84 runs on 70 balls at a strike rate of 120. Babar has had some success rotating the strike, but Rashid has dominated this matchup with four dismissals of Babar. Rashid has also had an excellent economy of 7.20 and an astonishing bowling strike rate of 17.50 against Babar in their head-to-head matchups.

In the ongoing T20 world cup 2026, their contrasting forms have been revealed. Babar is now batting at No. 4 in the revised batting order of Pakistan, but he has struggled to consistently assert himself on a game by game basis and has been under scrutiny regarding his strike rate. Conversely, Rashid is in excellent form, further showcasing his ability to bowl impactful spells and take important wickets. Rashid's performance of 2/13 on Wednesday against Sri Lanka further solidified his grasp of his craft and various aspects of his game, while also helping him climb the ladder of all-time T20I wicket-takers.

3) Phil Salt vs Mohammad Nawaz

The head-to-head battle between Phil Salt and Mohammad Nawaz has produced some exciting moments over the years. In seven innings facing Nawaz, Salt has accumulated 73 runs from just 43 deliveries, striking at an impressive rate of 169.76. Despite the aggressive scoring, Nawaz has managed to dismiss him once in this contest, though he has conceded runs at an economy rate of 10.18 in the matchup. Their encounters have reflected a competitive dynamic, with Salt often taking the attacking route while Nawaz looks to outfox him with variation.

In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, Salt has appeared in fine rhythm with the bat. His commanding 62 off 40 balls against Sri Lanka in Pallekele stood out, particularly given the challenging nature of the surface. The English opener now boasts 1,710 T20I runs at a strike rate exceeding 166, underlining his explosive credentials. On the other hand, Nawaz has contributed with steady spells, claiming 1/22 against Namibia and 1/21 versus the USA, offering Pakistan timely breakthroughs in crucial phases.
