While South Africa created history with a 408-run win against the hosts India in the Guwahati Test, South African star Aiden Markram set a new world record in Test cricket history. 

South Africa ended their 25-year drought to win a Test series in India, as the Proteas recorded their second Test series victory in India after winning the Guwahati Test by 408 runs, which was India’s largest Test defeat by runs. With this Test victory, South Africa completed a whitewash as they won the two-match Test series by 2-0.

Aiden Markram took 9 catches in Guwahati Test: Most catches in a Test match by a non-wicketkeeper

During the Guwahati Test, South African cricketer Aiden Markram grabbed nine catches. After recording five catches during India’s first innings, Markram also grabbed four catches in the final innings of the Test match. 

With nine catches, Markram set a new record for most catches in a Test match by a non-wicketkeeper. Previously, Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane and South African cricketer AB de Villiers held the record for most catches in a Test match with eight catches each.

Aiden Markram scored 102 runs in the Test series in India

In this Test series, Markram scored 102 runs in four innings with an average of 25.50.

In the Guwahati Test, after South Africa scored 489 runs, India replied with 201 all out. The Proteas team set a 549-run target for the hosts after scoring 260/5 declare, while India were bundled out for only 140 runs. 

Marco Jansen won the Player of the Match award in the Guwahati Test. After scoring a valuable 93 runs in the first innings, he also recorded a six-fer during India’s first innings (6/48) and also got one wicket in the final innings (1/28).
