Rohit Sharma's retirement was a shocker for every cricket fan. When IPL 2025 was at its peak and discussion about India's upcoming England tour was ongoing, Rohit pulled all the spotlight through the decision to retire from Test cricket. Sharma will now only play in the ODI format in the blue jersey.

Now, some surprising reports have emerged about his retirement. In a media report, it is stated that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed that Virat Kohli or Ravindra Jadeja that the upcoming series against England can be crucial for their future in whites. Which means Sharma had already played his career's last Test match in December 2024 in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where India brutally lost against the host team.

The talismanic India batter's bat most of the time remained silent in the recent past Test matches. Before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, New Zealand whitewashed the host team India, where Rohit was out of form. Not only Rohit, but also other senior players of the Test line-up were also criticized for the downfall of the team.

Another senior cricketer can bid adieu soon

There have been several media reports speculating that after Rohit Sharma, Virat is also likely to announce his retirement soon. This report can also be considered to be true because the legendary India batter has lately struggled in the longest format of the game. For the past 2-3 years, Virat has not lived up to his reputation, which has caused nationwide criticism of the legendary batter.  In the report, it is also claimed that the Mumbai-born batter previously planned to announce his retirement in the middle of May, but he broadcast the message on May 7 with immediate effect. 

Rohit Sharma, who retired from T20I just after winning the ICC T20I World Cup and now from Test cricket, said in an Instagram post, "Hello everyone. I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It's been an absolute honor to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format."
