Big setback for Haris Rauf

Pakistan pacer, Haris Rauf, became the first player from his country to go under the hammer at the maiden auction of The Hundred 2026 on March 12 as he failed to attract a single bid. Despite carrying a base price of 100000 pounds and having represented the Welsh Fire side previously in the competition, none of the eight franchises displayed interest in the right-arm pacer.

The omission of Haris Rauf has come amidst the growing concerns over the involvement of the other Pakistan players in the event following the entry of the owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises. There was a massive silence in the auction room when Rauf’s name was called, which tells a massive story with the pacer doing well in the last edition.

The Mumbai Indians have controlled the MI London, the Lucknow Super Giants have supported the Manchester Super Giants, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have owned the Sunrisers Leeds, with the Delhi Capitals being behind the Southern Brave. The landscape of the competition has shifted the approach of The Hundred, with four of those sides being part of it.

Haris has picked up a total of 361 wickets in the shortest format of 260 innings at an average of 21.93 and a strike rate of 15.5 with the help of 11 four-wicket hauls. In his career in The Hundred, he bagged 16 wickets in 11 innings, with 11 wickets coming at 8.18 in the last edition.

Along with Rauf, the Pakistan spin all-rounder, Shadab Khan, has also gone unsold in the event. But the new mystery spinner, Usman Tariq, has been signed by the Birmingham Phoenix, becoming the first Pakistani player to be sold at the auction for 140k dollar.

Welsh Fire has spent a lot of money, securing the MVP of 2025, Jordan Cox, for 30000 dollar, as the former England captain, Joe Root, has gone to the same side. The Southern Brave snapped up England’s Adil Rashid while MI London got James Vince.
