After three low scores, Indian Test captain Shubman Gill once again produced a big knock with his bat in the ongoing England tour, as his fighting century brought India back in the Manchester Test.

Despite scoring 16, 6, and 12 runs in the previous three innings before his latest Test century in Manchester, Indian captain Shubman Gill is still leading the most runs table strongly in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. With his latest century, the right-handed batter has scored 722 runs in this Test series with an average of 90.25. In the first two Tests of the series, the Indian captain his three centuries, including a double-century and a century in the historic Edgbaston Test. 

The visitors India were already under pressure before the Manchester Test, the fourth Test of the five-match series in England, as they were trailing the series by 2-1. English captain Ben Stokes chose to field first in the Manchester Test, where India scored 358 all out in the first innings. With the power of the twin century, England replied with 669 all out, securing a lead of 311 runs.

Indian captain Shubman Gill scored 103 runs 

India were more under pressure in their second innings of the Manchester Test by losing their first two wickets without opening the scoreboard. Opener KL Rahul and the skipper Shubman Gill finally came to rescue the visitors and set up a strong 188-run partnership for the third wicket. While Rahul was dismissed for 90 runs, captain Shubman Gill hit his fourth century in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. After completing his century in 228 balls, Gill scored 103 runs (12 fours) and lost his wicket just before the lunch break on the fifth day of the Test match.

  • First captain to hit more than three centuries in a bilateral Test series outside home. 
  • First Indian to hit more than three centuries in a bilateral Test series in England. Previously, Rahul Dravid hit three centuries during their England tours in 2002 and 2011. 
  • It was Gill's fourth Test century against England as a captain. After Virat Kohli, Gill became the second Indian Test captain to hit four centuries against England. 
  • After the Australian legend Sir Don Bradman (four centuries in the Ashes 1930), Gill became the second overseas cricketer to hit four centuries in a bilateral Test series in England.  
  • After the Australian legend Sir Don Bradman (four centuries during the India tour of Australia 1947/48) and the Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar (four centuries during the West Indies tour of India 1978/79), Gill became the third captain to record four centuries in a bilateral Test series. 
  • After Sunil Gavaskar (India tour of West Indies 1970/71) and Virat Kohli (Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2014/15 in Australia), Gill became the third Indian cricketer to hit four centuries in a Test series outside home.
  • With his sixth Test century against England, Gill became the fourth Indian cricketer to hit at least six Test centuries against England. The other three names in this list are Sachin Tendulkar (7 centuries), Rahul Dravid (7 centuries), and Mohammad Azharuddin (6 centuries).
