Fourteen-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi traded runs for recognition on Friday as he received the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi was honoured with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar on Friday by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in New Delhi. The 14-year-old received India’s highest civilian award for children aged 5 to 18. The award is given every year for outstanding work in fields such as Bravery, Art and Culture, Environment, Innovation, Science and Technology, Social Service, and Sports. The ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, and because of this, Vaibhav missed Bihar’s Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Manipur.

As per reports, Vaibhav was asked to report to Rashtrapati Bhavan at 7 AM for the ceremony. A total of 19 children were honoured for their achievements in different fields. During the event, the President said that the achievements of these children inspire the entire nation and show why India continues to shine on the global stage.

Due to the ceremony in New Delhi, Bihar’s young star could not take part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy clash against Manipur. While his absence was noticed, the reason was clear and special, as Vaibhav was receiving a once-in-a-lifetime national honour.

During the award ceremony, President Droupadi Murmu praised the children for their achievements across many fields. She said that their talent in bravery, art and culture, environment, innovation, science and technology, social service, and sports is inspiring. She added that every child honoured is equally important and respected. The President also said that such gifted children help India gain global recognition and congratulated the parents. She paid respect to departed souls and said their bravery will continue to inspire children across the country.

Vaibhav Unlikely to Play Vijay Hazare Trophy Again

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s absence from the match against Manipur surprised many fans, especially after his brilliant knock of 190 runs against Arunachal Pradesh. However, he is unlikely to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy again this season. The young batter is expected to join the India Under-19 squad to prepare for the upcoming Under-19 World Cup, which starts on January 15.

Record-Breaking Knock for Bihar

Vaibhav’s visit to Rashtrapati Bhavan came just days after a historic innings in domestic cricket. Playing for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh on December 24, he smashed 190 runs off 84 balls, hitting 16 fours and 15 sixes at a strike rate of 226.19.

With this knock, Vaibhav became the youngest player in men’s List A cricket to score a century, at the age of 14 years and 272 days. He reached his hundred in just 36 balls, making it the third-fastest List A century by an Indian. He also broke AB de Villiers’ record for the fastest 150 in men’s List A cricket, reaching the mark in 59 balls.
