There was a gap of one week amidst the Indian Premier League 2025 season. Chennai Super Kings, as they resumed the edition, named replacement for Gurjapneet Singh. They brought in Dewald Brevis, whose base price was 75 lakh. Though Brevis went onto play some enthralling innings in his 6 games outing, he was in the news, thanks to Ravichandran Ashwin.

Ashwin on his YouTube channel claimed that Brevis was bought by shelling too much of money as his bace price was 75 lakh and he was bought for 2.2 crore. This raised quite a buzz on social media and it made CSK to come out and clarify the issue with a statement.

CSK clarified that Gurjapneet Singh was bought for 2.2 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. As he was replaced by Dewald Brevis in the mid season, the latter was given the same amount as Gurjapneet which falls under the same price category and no rules were broken or mended. The franchise further added that all the development was within the rules set by the IPL.
