The five-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), ahead of the 2026 season of the event, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), will begin their campaign against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on March 29 under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, as their Thala Dhoni will return to the field after nearly nine months.

However, before the beginning of the competition, Chennai Super Kings has revealed to the Madras High Court that it will stop using the songs and music from the films starring Rajinikanth, including Jailer, Jailer 2, and Coolie, in its promotional material unless it obtains a license from the Copyright holders, Sun Pictures, who hold the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), according to the reports.

The submission was made by the senior advocate, PS Raman, on behalf of the Whistle Pody Army in response to the petition filed by the Sun TV Network, which has come in injunction restraining the side from using the songs and music in its promotions. The incident has happened two weeks before the IPL 2026.

CSK deny using Rajinikanth songs before IPL 2026

In the representation of the media company, the senior advocate, J Ravidran argued that the team had been using the music from the films without the authorization, infringing the copyright held by Sun Pictures. The Super Kings highlighted that it had been using portions of the songs in the promotional content for the last three years.

The petitioner had not raised objections earlier. Since an objection has now been raised, the franchise revealed that it would refrain from using the music unless it gets permission from the copyright owner or a license from Phonographic Performance Limited. Recording the undertaking, Justice Senthilkumar Ramanmoorthy adjourned the matter to March 16 for the side to file an affidavit.

The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side used the music during their promotional video on X (formerly known as Twitter) before they took the video down by the evening, which later saw the franchise putting the video without that music. Away from those issues, they will try to get better in the field and put up a strong performance.
