South Africa ended Australia's new record nine-match T20I winning streak on Tuesday, after thrashing the hosts by 53 runs in the second game of the T20I series, where the 22-year-old Proteas cricketer Dewald Brevis slammed a fiery century.

Leading the three-match T20I series by 1-0, Australian captain Mitchell Marsh chose to field first at Darwin in the second T20I. With the help of Dewald Brevis' 125 not out off 56 balls, South Africa scored 218/7 in 20 overs. It was their highest T20I total against Australia. In reply, the hosts were all out for 165 runs. While Proteas won the match by 53 runs, it was their largest T20I win (by runs) against Australia.

South Africa scored 50/2 at the end of the powerplay, while the top three batters managed double-digit scores but failed to reach the 20-run mark. However, the visitors' spirit was lifted by the youngster Dewald Brevis and Tristan Stubbs, as they had a 126-run partnership for the fourth wicket. While Stubbs scored 31 off 22 balls with three fours, Brevis dominated that partnership, just like the entire innings.

Dewald Brevis broke many records

After completing 50 runs in 25 balls, Brevis completed his maiden T20I century in just 41 balls, the second fastest T20I century by a South African batter and fastest T20I century by anyone against Australia. With his 125 not out, Brevis broke the record for the highest T20I score by a South African (previous record 119 by Faf du Plessis vs West Indies in Johannesburg 2015) as well as the highest T20I score by anyone against Australia (123* by Indian Ruturaj Gaikwad in Guwahati 2023).

Among the Australian bowlers, Ben Dwarshuis was the only bowler to maintain control in the entire innings, as the left-arm fast bowler had the bowling figures of 4-0-24-2. Also, Glenn Maxwell picked up two wickets (2/44) in that innings.

Australia were never in control at chase

In reply, Australia were never in control due to losing wickets at regular intervals. Only the skipper and opener Mitchell Marsh (22), Tim David (50), and Alex Carey (26) managed to reach the 20-run mark in that innings. While all six Proteas bowlers picked up at least one wicket, Corbin Bosch (3/20) and Kwena Maphaka (3/57) bagged three wickets each in that innings.
