England added Gus Atkinson to their squad for the third Test vs India at Lord’s

Just hours after suffering a crushing 336-run defeat at Edgbaston, England have named fast bowler Gus Atkinson in their squad for the third Test against India, set to begin on July 10 at Lord’s. The five-match series is now level at 1-1, and England will be desperate to bounce back at the iconic venue.

Atkinson returns to the Test squad after recovering from a right hamstring injury he picked up during England’s win over Zimbabwe in May. The 27-year-old Surrey pacer has shown great promise in his short Test career, claiming 55 wickets in 12 matches, and even has a century to his name, a rare feat for a fast bowler.

Atkinson Replaces Injured Pacers as Bumrah Returns for Crucial Lord’s Test

His inclusion may be a response to England’s injury and form concerns:

  • Brydon Carse is reportedly nursing a toe injury.
  • Josh Tongue struggled with rhythm at Edgbaston.
  • Jofra Archer is still working towards full-match fitness.

With Atkinson’s pace and ability to extract bounce, he could provide the cutting edge England lacked in the second Test.

India Gearing Up With Bumrah Back

India, on the other hand, has confirmed the return of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the Edgbaston Test. His inclusion will add firepower to an already confident Indian side that dominated England with both bat and ball.

With the series finely poised, all eyes will be on Lord’s as England hope their bowling reinforcements can turn the tide in the third Test.
