A lot of credit for taking India to the T20 World Cup 2026 final goes to Sanju Samson, who scored a half-century against the West Indies in the Super-8 and then against England in the semifinals. In the ongoing tournament, Sanju Samson had opportunities to score centuries but fell short. Against the West Indies, Samson remained unbeaten on 97 as India had already secured the victory. Later, in the semi-final against England, he once again had the chance to reach the three-figure mark but was dismissed for 89.

A similar situation unfolded in the final against the New Zealand national cricket team, where Samson once again missed out on a century. This time, he played an impressive knock of 89 runs off 46 balls, which included five fours and eight sixes. Samson was dismissed on the first ball of the 16th over when he attempted a big shot off a full toss from James Neesham, only to give a simple catch to the fielder at long-on.

Despite missing out on a century, Samson achieved a notable milestone by joining the list of players who have scored half-centuries in both the semifinals and finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Shahid Afridi accomplished this feat in 2009, while Virat Kohli did the same in 2014. With his performances in 2026, Samson has now joined this elite list.
