Vijay Hazare Trophy Mumbai

Amid the speculations of Shreyas Iyer's chances for the India vs. New Zealand ODI series, a latest report claims that the batter could make a comeback in competitive matches through a couple of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 (VHT 2025-26) matches.

Iyer, who sustained a serious rib injury during the Australia vs. India away ODI series, has started batting practice in nets. After spending a significant amount of time under medical observation, Iyer has been recovering well. Ahead of the upcoming India vs. New Zealand ODI series, he looked pain-free during the net sessions, according to previous reports.

Now, according to some fresh claims, the Mumbai-born can play 2 Vijay Hazare Trophy matches to regain his match fitness. It is claimed that the middle-order batter can feature during the Mumbai vs. Maharashtra and Mumbai vs. Himachal Pradesh matches, which are scheduled to take place on January 3 and January 6, respectively. If the reports turn true, then it will be a significant instance for Indian cricket, as he was the vice-captain during the IND vs AUS ODI series, deputy to captain Shubman Gill. As of now, the chance to see him batting for Mumbai is not official, but the chances are strongly there.

Shreyas Iyer could play Vijay Hazare Trophy matches before IND vs NZ ODI series

Mumbai has done well so far in the tournament by winning two back-to-back matches. After winning their opening game against Sikkim, they emerged victorious against Uttarakhand in the following match as well.

With multiple star players, Mumbai is one of the favorites to claim the VHT 2025-26 Trophy. Rohit Sharma appeared for them in the previous two matches with huge applause from the fans in Jaipur. If Iyer joins the team, then their star power will gain more star power without any doubts. Notably, Iyer was in good touch in Australia. On October 23, the right-handed batter registered a half-century for team India in Adelaide.
