In Match 1 of the 2025 Global Super League (GSL) season, Central Districts played against Dubai Capitals at the renowned Providence Stadium in Guyana. After winning the toss, Central Districts elected to bowl first, but dubai's innings was anchored superbly by their experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Despite a few breakthroughs from the bowling side, Dubai posted a solid total. In response, Central Districts struggled to accelerate under pressure, and a masterclass in spin bowling from Shakib sealed a 22-run win for the Capitals in the tournament opener.

Dubai Capitals Innings

Dubai Capitals batted first and put up a respectable 165/7 in their 20 overs, an all-around performance from Shakib Al Hasan. The experienced all-rounder made a magnificent 58 off 37 balls, anchoring the innings through the middle overs. He was supported by Sediqullah Atal, who contributed 41 off 25 balls in a positive opening, and Jesse Bootan, who came in late to make a cameo of 20 off 11. For Central Districts, the best bowler was Angus Schaw, who took 3/27 in 4 overs with tight bowling at the end. Blair Tickner (2/27) and Dean Foxcroft (1/23) also gave good support through the middle overs.

Central Districts Innings

Pursuing 166, Central Districts found it difficult to gain momentum and were limited to 143/8 in 20 overs. Skipper Tom Bruce was the top scorer with a determined 34 from 39 balls, but the innings never really gathered momentum. Dane Cleaver added 21 off 18, while William Clark tried to push the rate with 20 off 19, but it wasn’t enough to challenge the target.

Shakib Al Hasan continued his dominance with the ball, grabbing 4/13 in 4 overs, dismantling the middle order. He was well backed by Khuzaima Bin Tanvir (2/28) and Aryaman Varma (1/23), who applied pressure consistently throughout the innings.
