MS Dhoni fans can rejoice, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend isn’t done yet. The franchise’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed that Dhoni will feature in the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), ending months of speculation about the veteran’s future in yellow.

In an interview with Provoke Lifestyle magazine, as reported by The Times of India, Viswanathan revealed that Dhoni has no plans to retire just yet. Speaking to his grandson Noah, the CSK CEO said, “No, he is not retiring for this IPL.” When asked about when Dhoni might eventually hang up his boots, Viswanathan smiled and replied, “I’ll check with him and let you know.”

Dhoni, who will turn 45 before the next IPL season, remains as committed as ever to the franchise he has led for over a decade. Despite battling a recurring knee issue in recent years, the former India captain continues to be a vital presence behind the stumps and in the dressing room.

In IPL 2025, Dhoni scored 196 runs at an average of 24.50 and a strike rate of 135.17. With Ruturaj Gaikwad sidelined midway through the season due to injury, Dhoni stepped up once again to lead the side, demonstrating his trademark resilience and leadership.

Under Dhoni’s captaincy, CSK have won five IPL titles, the joint-most in the tournament’s history. He has amassed 5439 runs in 278 matches at an average of 38.30 and a strike rate of 137.45, along with 24 fifties to his name.

While CSK endured their toughest season yet in 2025, finishing at the bottom of the table for the first time, the confirmation of Dhoni’s return has brought renewed optimism to fans.

Earlier, Dhoni had hinted at taking his time before deciding his future, saying, “I have four or five months to decide. There’s no hurry.” For now, the message is clear, MS Dhoni will wear the yellow jersey once again in IPL 2026.
