India's head coach Gautam Gambhir is known for giving honest answers to questions at press conferences or in any interview. The man of the hour, Gambhir, has now won the Champions Trophy, Asia Cup, and the T20 World Cup 2026 in a span of one year. He has always defended his players, especially during the recently ended World Cup, where criticism rose around Abhish Sharma and Sanju Samson.

Gambhir was present at RevSportz’s Trailblazers 4.0 Conclave’s signature session on March 16, where he spoke at length about how he has made mistakes and should be allowed to do so since he is a human too. He was asked about how he deals with the outside noise where people keep him against Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Gautam Gambhir opens up on Team India dressing room environment

The viewers and cricket fans have often criticised Gambhir for being partial against Kohli and Rohit, and that led him to retire from Test cricket. While there is no proof to support these claims, the speculations have always been around the same. Talking about this, Gambhir opened up about how he feels.

"You made a very valid comment that I am a human. I should be allowed to make mistakes as well. Just like how others are allowed to make mistakes. I must have made mistakes in last 24 months and I don't shy away from that but I always believe in one thing, wrong decision with right intent is acceptable. But wrong decisions with wrong intent is abolutely not acceptable. Everyone should be allowed to make mistakes," said Gautam Gambhir.

What Gautam Gambhir said about leadership and handling criticism

Gautam Gambhir has handled pressure situations really well in the past and hence, the team is doing well under him across formats. India did lose a few matches, but they have managed to win trophies as well. Speaking about leadership, Gambhir made it clear that he is honest with the players in the dressing room and that helped him a lot.

"For me it's very simple. till the time I am doing everything with honesty, till the time I am honest with everyone in the dressing room, not only one or two, but with everyone, i can look into their eyes, and I can talk to them, I think I am doing a fair job," he added.

Gambhir also mentioned about his desire to play in the Olympics since it's a huge honor. India might get a chance to play in the 2028 Olympics but there is no official confirmation on the subject. He was asked if he would like to extend his contract which is going to end in 2027 to which he gave a straightforward answer.

"I would love to be part of the Olympics. It’s a huge honour. Very few get the honour to represent India at the Olympics. I was very clear from the first day — the tougher the game, the more aggressive you have to be. Come the big game, come the grudge game, you got to be more aggressive," he added.
