The fourth edition of the International League T20 will begin in Dubai on Tuesday, December 2. Defending champions Dubai Capitals will face the Desert Vipers in the opening match, a repeat of last year’s final. The tournament has returned in less than 10 months because the T20 World Cup is scheduled for February. After the first-ever auction, teams have made several changes, but the overall quality has improved, with no other league clashing at the moment.

Most teams still look familiar, as they were able to retain five to seven core players. Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran will return in blue, while Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson will continue leading Sharjah Warriorz and Desert Vipers. Dasun Shanaka, Gulbadin Naib and Rovman Powell will take charge for the Capitals, while James Vince will again lead the Gulf Giants, the winners of the first season. With the IPL auction coming soon, players such as Naveen-ul-Haq, Jonny Bairstow, Tom Banton, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Liam Livingstone and Jason Holder will have a chance to impress potential buyers.

From India, Dinesh Karthik and Piyush Chawla will be the two capped Indian players in the league. Unmukt Chand, the former India U19 World Cup-winning captain who now plays for the USA, will also represent Abu Dhabi Knight Riders alongside Chawla. Several players are expected to leave later for the Big Bash League and SA20, so teams have already planned for replacements. It will be interesting to see which squad handles these challenges the best.
