Another day to remember the class of Jasprit Bumrah. South Africa went to bat first and scored only 159 runs against all ten wickets. Jasprit Bumrah took 5. India fields a spin-heavy eleven at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. But, it was the ace pacer who dismantled the batting lineup of the touring team. 

The fresh pitch of Eden Gardens had some grass on it. Which was enough for Bumrah to do what he can do best. After the initial first few overs, when the ball was bouncing unevenly, the right-handed pacer found the right place to hit the timber of Ryan Rickelton. Rickelton was the first batter to lose his scalp on Day 1. On the opening wicket stand, Rickelton and Aiden Markram added 57 runs to the scoreboard. After that, with 9 wickets in hand, South Africa managed to gather only 102 runs before the end of the day.

Bumrah on a roll today at the Eden Gardens

lately, but surely Mohammed Siraj also joined the party by taking a couple of wickets. Among the spinners, the only specialist spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, scalped twice, and Axar Patel got a wicket as well. 

Markram was the highest individual run scorer for South Africa on Day 1; with a well-controlled manner, he scored 31 runs before being tricked by Bumrah. Rickelton was a little bit aggressive, scoring 23 off 22. Wiaan Mulder (24) and Tony de Zorzi (24) tried to bring in some stability in the middle, but their knocks were too short-lived. Against Bumrah, Markram, Rickelton, Zorzi, Simon Harmer, and Keshav Maharaj lost their wickets.
