The Indian bowling was weak. Kranti Goud took the early wicket of Alyssa Healy, but Phoebe Litchfield scored 88 easily. Ellyse Perry retired hurt on 30. India Women vs Australia Women 2025 – Match Summary

Australia Women made a steady start despite losing Alyssa Healy early in the Powerplay. Their batters showed no pressure. Phoebe Litchfield anchored the chase with a brilliant 88, while Beth Mooney scored a classy half-century to give strong support. Ellyse Perry, who retired hurt, still contributed, and Annabel Sutherland stayed unbeaten on 54, adding over 100 runs with Mooney to finish the game. Australia showed their quality and adaptability, making this win a perfect boost ahead of the World Cup.

Phoebe Litchfield was named Player of the Match. She said it was good to bat alongside the skipper and admitted she had some luck. She also mentioned that playing hockey right-handed helps her with reverse sweeps, though she needs more practice. She praised the bowlers for restricting India to 281 and said Australia chased it well.

India Women put up a competitive total of 281/7. Half-centuries from the top three and contributions from the middle order helped, but they couldn’t finish strongly. Openers Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana put together a 114-run opening partnership, the highest for India against Australia in 50-over cricket. Mandhana scored 58 off 63 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes, before a miscommunication led to her run-out.

Australia’s bowling was solid. Megan Schutt, playing her 100th WODI, took key wickets, supported well by the other bowlers. India’s bowling and fielding were disappointing, with sloppy fielding and dropped chances proving costly. Only Sneh Rana and Kranti Gaud took wickets, which was not enough to stop Australia.

Australia chased 282 in 44.1 overs and won by 8 wickets, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. The second ODI will be played on Wednesday, September 17, at the same venue. India Women, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, will look to win to keep the series alive.

Scorecard:

India Women: 281/7 (50 overs)

Australia Women: 282/2 (44.1 overs)

Result: Australia Women won by 8 wickets
