IPL 2023: Latest updates on Retentions

Before November 15, at 5 p.m. IST, each of the ten IPL franchises must submit their list of retained and released players to the BCCI. While Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the IPL’s two most successful teams, have already provided their rosters, the remaining eight franchises are also finalising their strategies ahead of the IPL 2023 auction, which will take place in Kochi on December 23.

Franchises have already made a lot of moves, such as trading Jason Behrendroff from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to Mumbai Indians and signing Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Lockie Ferguson from Gujarat Titans (GT) to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Shardul Thakur, who joined KKR from Delhi Capitals (DC), was the most well-known Indian player to be traded. Here are the most recent news and rumours ahead of IPL retention day on November 15 as the deadline approaches.

UPDATES:

Mumbai Indians likely to release Pollard

Kieron Pollard could be released by Mumbai Indians, who would then buy him back at the IPL auction on December 23. Before last year’s mega auction, MI kept four players, including Pollard. Franchises frequently try to cut players’ payouts by letting them enter the auction and then buying them back.

Here’s the list of players Mumbai Indians could probably release:

Fabian Allen, Kieron Pollard, Tymal Mills, Mayank Markande, and Hrithik Shoukin

CSKs’s probable released players’ list

Chennai Super Kings may want to make some changes after finishing ninth in the IPL standings. Veteran players like Dwayne Bravo and Ambati Rayudu may be allowed to leave, but CSK has also been widely expected to let go of Chris Jordan and Adam Milne.

RCB’s probable list of released players

The Royal Challengers Bangalore may fire Akash Deep, David Willey, Siddharth Kaul, and Karn Sharma. While Mumbai Indians have already acquired Australian all-rounder Jason Beherendroff from RCB. After making it to the playoffs, but falling short by a small margin, RCB will be looking to get their hands on the elusive IPL trophy in 2023.

Here are the players RCB may look to retain:

Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Mohammed Siraj, Faf du Plessis, Harshal Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dinesh Karthik, Josh Hazlewood, Shahbaz Ahmed, Anuj Rawat, Akash Deep, Mahipal Lomror, Finn Allen, Sherfane Rutherford, Suyash Prabhudessai, Chama Milind, Aneeshwar Gautam, Luvnith Sisodia

KKR to let go of Shivam Mavi

Shivam Mavi, a former India U-19 pacer, is likely to leave Kolkata Knight Riders after the team heavily relied on the expertise of Rahmanullah Gurbah, Lockie Ferguson, and Shardul Thakur. Mavi was purchased for INR 7.25 crores, but he was unable to do much for the Shah Rukh Khan-owned team, which failed to make the playoffs last year.

Sunrisers Hyderabad likely to part ways with Kane Williamson!

Sunrisers Hyderabad is likely to make a lot of changes in 2023 after having a bad IPL 2022. It’s likely that Kane Williamson will be the first man to leave. The Orange Yellow may also be looking to sell players like Karthik Tyagi, Romario Shepherd, and Sean Abbott.

Australian players availability under threat

In addition to Starc and Cummins, Aaron Finch’s availability is currently uncertain due to the Australian team’s packed schedule. The team with the most international players is the Australian one. They offer the most international recruits.

Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins to miss IPL 2023

Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins are likely to miss IPL 2023 and the Ashes, which take place in the English summer. Australia has four Test matches against India, five Test matches against England, and an ODI World Cup.
