In the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2, the Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians (PBKS vs MI) match is going on at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday night (June 1). For the Mumbai Indians, Richard Gleeson is absent from the squad. Here, we are revealing the reason for Gleeson's missing the MI squad in Qualifier 2.

IPL 2025: Richard Gleeson played one match

Before the drizzle interrupted the game, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to field first. Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya revealed that Richard Gleeson would miss the match. Gleeson featured in their last game, which was the Eliminator against Gujarat Titans. It was his first game of the season, who replaced South African Corbin Bosch for the remainder of the tournament, and replaced injured Deepak Chahar to earn his maiden MI cap. 

In that IPL 2025 Eliminator match, while MI won by 20 runs after scoring 228/5, Gleeson had the bowling figures of 3.3-0-39-1. He delivered the final over of the match despite niggle issues, while GT needed 24 runs to win, and Gleeson conceded only three runs before deciding to go off, as Ashwani Kumar ended that over.

IPL 2025, Qualifier 2, PBKS vs MI: Why is Richard Gleeson not playing?

The 37-year-old English pacer Richard Gleeson has a niggle, and it has forced him to miss the Qualifier 2. Another English pacer Reece Topley has replaced Gleeson for Qualifier 2.  

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have experiened one key change, as Yuzvendra Chahal is back after recovering from wrist injury, as he missed out on their last three matches, including the Qualifier 1 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are already in the IPL 2025 Final and waiting for their opponent. The winners of Qualifier 2 will advance to the IPL 2025 Final and will face RCB on Tuesday evening (June 3) at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.  

Mumbai Indians (MI) are five-time IPL champions, the joint-most IPL trophy successes for a team, along with Chennai Super Kings. In fact, MI were the first IPL team to win the trophy five times. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have played only IPL Final, and it was back in the 2014 edition, where Kolkata Knight Riders beat them in the Final. On the other hand, RCB are the three-time IPL runners-up.
