IPL 2022 to bring back crowds to stadiums

For the first time since its suspension in 2021, the Indian Premier League will return to its original venues. In Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune, tickets for the 70 league games will be on sale starting at noon on Wednesday.

Consultations with the Maharashtra government led to a 25% attendance approval for the league phase. As a result of pandemics that affected India for the past two seasons, and after the second wave of Covid infections ruptured team bubbles, the return of spectators marks the restoration of near-normality to the game’s biggest league. In spite of UAE allowing 50% crowds, players failed to generate the buzz that most franchises have been able to develop over time by playing in front of their home fans. Mumbai Indians are among the biggest beneficiaries of this since they can host the IPL at their home ground. Wankhede is five minutes away from Brabourne Stadium, where three games per team will be played and where half of the MI League matches will be played, despite the fact that all teams have received an equal number of matches at each venue.

“IPL action has been lacking for our fans. “I hope they will be back for our opening match on March 26 between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah wrote to state association presidents and secretaries. In addition to the addition of Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans, the IPL this year will feature ten teams and no air travel. It is expected that the playoffs will take place in Ahmedabad in the last week of May.
