Indian batting fought hard on second day, including fighter Rishabh Pant

Although India lost the in-form Ravindra Jadeja (20) early on the second day, Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar built up a valuable 48-run partnership for the sixth wicket to set a challenging first innings total. Later, Rishabh Pant surprisingly came to bat with his fractured foot to add crucial runs, as the left-handed batter scored 54 runs before Jofra Archer bowled him with a brilliant delivery. While Thakur scored 41 runs, Sundar scored crucial 27 runs.

Among the English bowlers, captain Ben Stokes claimed a fifer (5/72), which was his first Test five-wicket haul after almost eight years. Also, Jofra Archer bagged three wickets (3/73) in that innings.
