When Suryakumar Yadav threw the ball to their premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, during the second semifinal of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 between India and England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the opposition needed 69 runs in the last five overs, which was very much achievable in these conditions, especially with Jacob Bethell being unbeaten on 81 runs in 36 balls.

Jasprit Bumrah’s first ball of the 16th over was full at the stumps from round the wicket, and Sam Curran got the bat down in time to squeeze it away off the toe-end. The second ball was again on the blockhole as Bethell squeezed it away through the point region. The third ball was a low full toss on the pads as Curran flicked it through the square leg region.

England was very watchful in the Bumrah over as Curran pounced on the loose ball and didn’t get any runs. The fifth ball of the over was a slower bouncer as Curran, initially being deceived, managed to adjust on the pull and completed the single. The wide yorker on the last ball was put into the deep point for a single.

The 17th over from the left-arm pacer, Arshdeep Singh, was smacked for 16 runs, including a four and a six to end the over. Bumrah came into the 18th over and gave away only four singles and one double for six runs.

The first ball of the over was again close to the blockhole as it angled in at the stumps from round the wicket for a dot before he drove the yorker to the long-on region for a single. The third ball was another six on the on-side against the slower dipping yorker on the off stump.

After a couple of runs on the full toss into the leg side, Sam Curran and Jacob Bethell got two singles off the last two balls, respectively. Bumrah, who picked up the wicket of the opposition captain, Harry Brook, earlier in the evening, finished with fine figures of 1/33 in his four overs.

Brief Scores: IND 253/7 (Sanju Samson 89, Shivam Dube 43, Will Jacks 2/40) beat ENG 246/7 (Jacob Bethell 105, Hardik Pandya 2/38) by 7 runs.
