Kagiso Rabada

South Africa's pace bowler Kagiso Rabada took to his Instagram account to pay tribute to two of the all-time great Test batters of modern day, Hashim Amla and Virat Kohli. Rabada described Amla and Kohli as "pretty cool" and created a side-by-side graphic depicting their unbelievable stats and figures, which reflected how much they resembled one another in men's Test cricket.

The image compared Amla and Kohli across a number of Test match statistics, and the numbers are incredible. Amla played 124 Tests, tons in all, scoring 9282 runs at an average of 46.64, while Kohli has played 123 Test matches, scoring 9230 runs at an average of 46.85. Amla scored many hundreds; however, Kohli eclipses Aman lightly with Kohli's mark of 30 and Amla's mark of 28. Amla also boasts a greater individual score than Kohli's best score of *254, with Amla's unforgettable *311 not out.
Although both batters differ in styles - Amla calm and elegant, whilst Kohli more aggressive and flamboyant - both legendary players have given the cricket world influential careers and garnered admiration from the cricketing world.

Legends Leave, Legacies Last

Both players finished Test cricket at 36, living out their red-ball careers by their own definition. Amla stepped away in 2019, and Kohli is walking away - apparently now - having started the announcement of the end of his Test career ahead of India's upcoming WTC cycle. This juxtaposition is poignant and reminds people of the class and consistency both players had to offer their teams.

Rabada's post is affirmation that it was more than a statistical contribution - Amla's unwavering industry and Kohli's ardent passion; for the fans it highlights that stats only tell part of the story, and the respect conveyed through peers like Rabada means even more.

In the end, the game honors two legends who ushered in an era - one between the calm and the ferocity of command - but both immortal.
