KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant

When Rishabh Pant was heading towards the dressing room after a near-perfect Day 1 for Team India in the ongoing Headingley Test, KL Rahul was waiting for Pant, the vice captain of the Test side.

During the closing moments of the day, Rishabh did not show any intention to slow down; instead, he stepped down the track to hit Chris Wokes for a mammoth 6 over the deep square leg region. It was the hour of the day when batters are usually all about defense to protect their timber. But it was Rishabh Pant who always looked to pick delivery for maximum.

Woakes and the England skipper left the field with amusement. They only could hope for a better performance on Day 2. India concluded the beginning of the Leeds Test with 359 for 3 on the scoreboard.

A frame to show the bond between Team India players

No matter how many times Pant had to face heavy criticism from outside of the field, he took no opportunities to turn the stone. Like Stokes and Woakes, KL Rahul was also amazed to witness the batting by the keeper.

Out of respect, Rahul folded his hands and bowed down when Pant was about to enter the dressing room. It was a mock gesture in reverence. The left-handed batter often had to deal with criticisms because of over-aggression. In the past, Pant lost his wicket multiple times out of his natural instinct to play big shots. But the six he hit in the last over of the day was not a piece of recklessness. Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten for 65 along with the newly appointed skipper Shubman Gill, who has a hundred and will try to extend runs on Day 2 as well.
