India played several T20Is as preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, which begins in the first week of February in India and Sri Lanka. Post that, their focus will then shift to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, followed by the upcoming ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, which begins towards the end of 2027.

India will play their first ODI series of 2026 against New Zealand at home, which will be followed by three more 50-over clashes against Afghanistan in familiar conditions just after the end of the IPL 2026. After the end of the two-match Test series in Sri Lanka, the blue brigade will fly to England.

In the United Kingdom, India will play a three-match ODI series, which will be followed by three more ODI games against Bangladesh away from home. That series was supposed to take place in 2025 and isn’t confirmed to take place next year as of now.

India to play 18 ODIs in 2026

After that, the home season for the Indian side will begin, where they will play three ODIs against the West Indies. After that, the Shubman Gill-led side will fly to New Zealand, where their whole trip will consist of three 50-over fixtures.

Later, they will return home for the last three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the two veterans who have already taken their respective retirements from the Tests and T20Is, have put their entire focus on the ODIs for the next ODI World Cup.

Rohit and Virat both played the first two rounds of the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025/26. The former smashed three half-centuries and one unbeaten century in the last six ODIs, while Kohli clubbed two unbeaten fifties and two centuries in the last four innings of the ODI format.
