Most titles as captain of MI franchise.

Mumbai Indians, under the captaincy of Nicholas Pooran through the Major League Cricket 2025, have added another title to their cabinet. They now have 13 trophies in the shortest format across the globe, with some the memorable moments for the fans. In this MLC 2025, they were down and out in the group stage of the competition but made a cracking comeback in the second half.

As Kieron Pollard, who has been a veteran member of the franchise for a long time in different tournaments, reckoned that until this franchise is down and out in the mathematical equation, no one should count them out of the tournament at any cost. And that exactly happened as the MI New York scripted a five-run victory over the Washington Freedom.

Let’s take a look at the captains of the MI franchise with the most titles across the globe.

5. Harbhajan Singh (1 title)

Harbhajan Singh was the leader of the franchise when they earned the very first edition of the Champions League T20 in 2013. They started the season with a defeat over the Rajasthan Royals before the second game saw the rain play spoilsport. However, they made two successive dominating performances with victories against the Lions and the Perth Scorchers.

In the semifinal of the event, Mumbai faced Trinidad & Tobago in Delhi. Thanks to Evin Lewis’ 62 runs in 46 balls and Yannick Ottley’s 41 unbeaten runs in 30 balls, the West Indies franchise reached 153/5 in their 20 overs. The 90-run opening stand was enough for Mumbai to script the victory, with Dwayne Smith ending with 59 in 35 balls. Later, the franchise had a walk in the park against the Rajasthan Royals in the final with a 33-run win.

 4. Rashid Khan (1 title)

After two poor seasons at the start of the SA20, the MI Cape Town decided to bring Rashid Khan as the leader of the side. And that turned their fortune straightaway. They began the 2025 season with three wins in the first five clashes. After the abandoned fixture against the Durban Super Giants, MI picked up the pace.

With an unbeaten group-stage of the event, having six victories, Rashid Khan’s army finished at the top of the points table. In the first qualifier against the Paarl Royals, MI got 199/4 and earned a victory by 39 runs. It was another cakewalk for them in the final against the Sunrisers Eastern where they got a 76-run victory.

3. Harmanpreet Kaur (2 titles)

Once the Women’s Premier League (WPL) started, many predicted MI to have another dominating time in this league. And they were right. Under Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership, the Mumbai Indians women finished the 2023 season in second position in the group stage. They blew away the Delhi Capitals in the final with a seven-wicket win to lift the maiden trophy of the league.

It was just a carbon copy during the 2025 season, where they again finished in the second rank, thanks to five wins in eight encounters. They again met the Delhi side in the final, and this time grabbed the urn with an eight-run victory. They defended their 149 runs thanks to some superb bowling and fielding performances.

2. Nicholas Pooran (3 titles)

In two different leagues, Nicholas Pooran has won three titles overall for the Mumbai Indians. The first one came in 2023 against the Seattle Orcas when they won by 184 runs by seven wickets in hand. In this season of 2025, they defended their 180-run score as the 22-year-old Rushil Ugarkar showed his calmness in the final over.

Pooran also captained the MI Emirates in 2024, where they finished the group stage at the top with six wins in 10 fixtures. They met the Dubai Capitals in the final and defended 208/3 to win the clash by 45 runs.

  1. Rohit Sharma (6 titles)

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and the Mumbai Indians were a fairytale story. Under him, they won their very first title of the IPL in 2013 and then continued the progress in 2015, 2017, and 2019. In this period, they produced some magical players like Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and others, who went on to help Indian cricket a lot in the future.

In 2019, they held their nerve against the Chennai Super Kings for a one-run victory. They followed the superb performance in 2020 when they ended up being the most dominant side. There was hardly any need to hold the competition as their performance was above excellence to others.

They haven’t won the IPL since 2020 and came close in 2025 when they lost the second qualifier to the Punjab Kings. But the way their young players have performed so far, the trophy cabinet is going to fill more in the coming years.
