With less than a week to go ahead of the IPL 2026 retentions, the talk of the town has been around the trade of Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja between the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals. It has been reported that the five-time champions are likely to trade Ravindra Jadeja and Dewald Brevis to the Royals in place of Samson ahead of the next season.

Samson could be a vital member of the Super Kings as he would be a fine leader of the franchise, along with his batting and wicket-keeping skills. The former Indian batter, Mohammad Kaif, feels that Dhoni would not be averse to leaving his long-time teammate.

“For Dhoni, making the team win is the biggest goal. If he is coming to play again, he will be thinking CSK finished 10th in the standings last year. He is a man of pride; hence, his biggest goal will be to make the team win another trophy. A team cannot win the trophy based on one player.” Kaif expressed on his YouTube channel.

Jadeja, who featured for the Rajasthan Royals towards the start of his IPL career, has smashed a total of 3260 runs in 198 innings at a strike rate of 130.29 with five fifties and picked up 170 wickets at an economy rate of 7.67.

“If Jadeja has to be sacrificed for the team’s good, Dhoni will do it. People say how Dhoni operates based on friendships and gives them a couple of extra chances. But it doesn’t mean his focus goes away from winning. The goal is to make CSK a champion. That’s why he will let go of Jadeja if it has to be done. If Dhoni feels he can get a better option for the team, he will make the decision.” Kaif addressed.

“If Samson is likely to join CSK, there would be a lot of calls. Sanju must have called on the phone. Behind the scenes, there are a lot of phone calls. Sanju might have spoken to CSK, maybe Dhoni, ‘Bhai kya lagta hai.’ See, Dhoni runs the team, and if CSK wants Sanju this time, then he is also the future captain.” The former Indian player added.
