Multan Sultans owner says Pakistan Cricket Board demanded tweet deletion to renew PSL contract

Multan Sultans owner Ali Khan Tareen said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) asked him to delete some tweets to renew the team’s contract in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He said the board wanted him to remove tweets that criticized the league’s management and also asked him to give an apology.

Tareen said the PCB also wanted a written promise that he would not criticize the league in the future. The issue started after he posted several tweets and comments about problems in the PSL management. After that, the PCB sent him a legal notice saying his comments broke the rules of the franchise agreement.

Because of this disagreement, Tareen decided not to renew the ownership deal of Multan Sultans. After that, the PCB took control of the team and started looking for new owners for the franchise before the next PSL season.

Multan Sultans owner tears PCB legal notice in viral video

Earlier, the issue began after a video of Tareen went viral online. In the video, he tore up a legal notice sent by the PCB. The board had warned that his franchise contract could be ended if he did not take back his comments.

The issue became public after reports said the PCB asked Tareen to withdraw his statements. Tareen had questioned the PCB’s claims about the financial success of the PSL. In tweets and podcasts, he accused the board of poor management. In one podcast, he said the PSL had dropped to the “fifth or sixth” place among global franchise leagues because of “incompetent management”.

After getting the notice, Tareen posted a video where he read a sarcastic apology and then tore the notice. He said, “This is my apology.” Many people on social media supported his reaction. Reports also say the dispute could lead to a legal battle between Tareen and the PCB.

Tareen owns one of the most valuable teams in the PSL. He pays about 6.35 million US dollars every year for the franchise. He also said his team has invested around 7 billion Pakistani rupees in PSL-related cricket activities.
