Nicola Carey dismisses Smriti Mandhana for four-ball duck

When Australia posted a massive score of over 400 runs on the board during the third ODI of the three-match series against India at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart, India always had a stiff task in their hand to go for a run rate of over eight from the beginning of the innings, and that too for 300 balls, which would have been an extra-ordinary performance.

India didn’t get a great start, losing their in-form opening batter, Smriti Mandhana, for a four-ball duck. Her first delivery was defended back to the bowler as the home side went with the attacking mode, keeping the slip in place. After being driven to cover on the second ball and punched to the right of the mid-off region on the third delivery, Carey came up with a different plan.

Mandhana tried to be too aggressive and perished. It was an out-swinging delivery from Nicola Carey on a fullish length, as Mandhana walked down the surface to swing across the line, and the ball lobbed up in the air off the leading edge, where Asleigh Gardner completed an easy catch.

Earlier in the game, Australia posted a massive score of 409 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Their captain, playing in her farewell ODI innings, Alyssa Healy, ended up with a firing knock of 158 runs in just 98 balls with the help of 27 boundaries and two sixes at a strike rate of 161.22.

Meanwhile, Australia got another massive contribution from their wicket-keeper batter, Beth Mooney, who bashed an unbeaten 106 runs in just 84 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and one six at a strike rate of 126.19.

India found themselves under pressure as they kept losing wickets regularly. Only one of their batters, Jemimah Rodrigues, crossed the 40-run mark, while the other failed to get themselves to a strong individual score with the bat.

Brief Scores: AUS-W 409/7 (Alyssa Healy 158, Beth Mooney 106*, Sneh Rana 2/66) vs IND-W 198/7 (Jemimah Rodrigues 42, Alana King 3/28)
