India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, perhaps expected the question of how they planned and would tackle the mystery and talk of the town spinner of the Pakistan side, Usman Tariq, for the meeting on February 15 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo in the T20 World Cup 2026. And Sky didn’t show any anxiety in answering the question during the pre-match press conference.  

Suryakumar Yadav revealed that they had played such bowlers with unusual actions in the past, and they also have made different plans for Tariq, who has been successful with three wickets for 27 runs in four overs during their previous contest against United States of America at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.

“If you get an out-of-syllabus question in the exams, you don’t leave it, you try and answer that. That’s what we will look to do. And it’s not that we haven’t practiced against bowlers with unusual action- we will plan and practice accordingly.” Suryakumar Yadav revealed.

Suryakumar Yadav not anxious about Usman Tariq ahead of T20 WC 2026 meeting

Salman Ali Agha was asked the same question on Tariq, to which he took a different route. Meanwhile, both captains had different ways of reflecting on the handshake controversy, which happened when Sky didn’t shake hands with Agha during the Asia Cup 2025.

“You all have made Usman Tariq a big name. For us, all 15 players are important. He has been bowling well. You can definitely say that he is a trump card for us. He has been cleared by the ICC, so I don't understand why everyone is discussing him. Usman doesn't get affected by these things. He is fine. He doesn't care about these things.” Agha addressed.

“Wait for 24 hours. We are here to play cricket. Have good food and sleep.” Sky reflected, to which Agha replied, “Cricket should be played in the right spirit. My personal opinion may not matter, but cricket should be played the way it has always been meant to be played. It's up to them to decide what to do.”
