Mohammad Rizwan got off to his Caribbean Premier League (CPL) journey in a disappointing way. He flew from Pakistan to West Indies to face Barbados Royals and ended in loosing his wicket in a hysterical manner.

The experienced batter went for a sweep shot but missed the ball entirely by miles and lost the wicket. The delivery from Jomel Warrican knocked down the middle stump. The spinner took away all the pace from the ball to trick Rizwan. The St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots signed the right-handed batsman with a lot of expectations, but surely, he was miles away from his best.

Rizwan joined the franchise for the first time in his career as the replacement of Afghanistan international Fazalhaq Farooqi. Before today's match against Barbados Royals, Patriots had a rocky start to this year’s CPL, as they lost 3 back-to-back matches before getting their first victory of the ongoing campaign. In place of a fast bowler, signing Rizwan, who is a full-time batter, clearly showed the franchise's intention to bolster their batting strength. For Rizwan, who is neither a part of the Asia Cup squad nor Pakistan’s T20I team, CPL 2025 should be utilized as the stage to make a statement. During the game versus Barbados, he scored only 3 runs after facing 6 balls.

Who won the game?

The dismissal of Rizwan did not harm the Patriots in a broad way, as they were able to register their second victory of the campaign. Batting first, St. Kitts scored a fightable total of 174 for 8 wickets. Kyle Mayers (42) and captain Jason Holder (38) played precious innings to push their run wheel. The target was chaseable, but the Patriots bowlers were prepared for a fightback.

After adding some important runs, Holder bagged 4 scalps while defending their total. Shah and Navin Bidaisee claimed a brace each. Before the conclusion of the 19th over, they lost all of their wickets and allowed the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots to win the match by 12 runs.
