The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced new selection panels and an election commissioner on Thursday. The decision came shortly after Pakistan’s disappointing campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026. The team was eliminated in the Super 8 stage of the tournament. Following the exit, several changes were made within the board’s structure.

Aleem Dar stepped down from the PCB selection panel after the team’s early elimination. It is worth noting that Dar had joined the selection committee in October 2024. His resignation created space for new appointments in the panel. The PCB soon confirmed a fresh selection setup for the national teams.

Former Pakistan captains Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed have been included in the new men’s selection committee. They replaced Aleem Dar and team analyst Usman Hashmi, who was previously a non-voting member. Meanwhile, Asad Shafiq and Aaqib Javed have retained their spots on the panel. The board also announced Mansoor Qadir, a retired Provincial Management Service Officer (BS-21), as the new Election Commissioner.

Changes Across Men’s and Women’s Selection Panels

Interestingly, Asad Shafiq will also serve on the selection panel for the Pakistan women’s national team. He will work alongside former cricketer Batool Fatima. Two positions in the women’s selection committee remain open for the head coach and the team captain. The PCB has not yet confirmed those appointments.

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign was disappointing overall. Their first match in the Super 8 stage was abandoned due to rain. The team then suffered a defeat against England, led by Harry Brook. Pakistan later defeated Sri Lanka by five runs despite scoring 212, but it was not enough to change their fate.

After the poor campaign, several controversies have emerged in Pakistan cricket. Reports claimed that the board fined players PKR 50 lakh each. There were also allegations that an unknown player harassed female hotel staff in Kandy. Meanwhile, the PCB announced the ODI squad for the Bangladesh series, dropping players such as Babar Azam, Saim Ayub, Usman Khan, Mohammad Nawaz and Naseem Shah, while Shaheen Afridi has been appointed as the new ODI captain ahead of the three-match series starting March 11 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.
