PCB set to impose ₹50 lakh fine on Pakistan cricketers after T20 World Cup 2026 exit

The Pakistan Cricket Board is very unhappy with Pakistan’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2026. The team won only one match in the Super 8 stage and failed to reach the semi-finals. This is not the first time Pakistan has performed poorly in ICC tournaments in recent years, including the Champions Trophy, ODI World Cup, and the 2024 T20 World Cup.

According to reports, the board is considering strong action against the players. Each player who was part of the World Cup squad may be fined 5 million Pakistani rupees. The amount may be deducted from match fees or salaries. This fine is about 16 lakh Indian rupees. This is the first time such a strict decision has been considered in Pakistani cricket.

Pakistan lost matches in every stage of the tournament. Before the World Cup, Pakistan had created controversy about not playing against India. However, after a meeting with the International Cricket Council, they agreed to participate.

Pakistan defeated only a few teams but lost to England, and was saved from defeat against New Zealand due to rain. Later, they also lost to Sri Lanka. Star players Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi were out of form during the tournament.

Former Stars Criticise Pakistan’s Poor Performance in T20 World Cup 2026

Former Pakistan captain and batting legend Javed Miandad expressed strong disappointment over the team’s performance. He said, “You get one chance in two years to leave an imprint of your country’s cricket excellence, and if you fail again, it is very disappointing to see.” Miandad also said that T20 cricket has become more technical and methodical, and Pakistan players are struggling to match other teams.

Miandad further said Pakistan’s performance against higher-ranked teams is a serious concern. He suggested that the Pakistan Cricket Board should take some strong and important decisions.

Former captain Mohammad Yousuf said, “Some players were given too many chances in T20 cricket but failed in major tournaments. It is time to move on and learn from mistakes.”

Former skipper Moin Khan said, “You cannot win major ICC tournaments unless you can defeat top-ranked teams. Unfortunately, we have made too many mistakes in selection and on the field. Our main players did not perform in the World Cup.”

Senior players, including Babar Azam, Salman Ali Agha, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Mohammad Nawaz, are facing heavy criticism.

Former coach Saqlain Mushtaq also faced criticism for defending Shadab Khan’s performance and blaming head coach Mike Hesson. He said the team must correct its mistakes and improve future performance.
