Amidst the controversy that saw the International Cricket Council (ICC) banning Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka and replacing them with Scotland, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has signed a Bangladesh bowler ahead of their upcoming edition, as the historic first auction of the competition will be taking place on February 11.

The left-arm pacer of the Bangladesh side, Mustafizur Rahman, has been signed by the Lahore Qalandars after he was ditched by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), who asked the three-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), to release the pacer from the squad.

Lahore has already retained their four players from the previous edition, where they ended as the winner, beating the Quetta Gladiators in the final. Their first retained player on the list was their captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, from the previous season of the tournament. Their second retained player from the Diamond category was their opening batter—Abdullah Shafique.

Lahore Qalandars sign Mustafizur Rahman ahead of PSL 2026

Mustafizur has overall picked up 158 wickets in 125 innings of the shortest format for Bangladesh at an average of 20.96 and a strike rate of 17.2 with the help of three four-wicket hauls and a couple of five-wicket hauls at an economy rate of 7.58. He was part of the franchise in the 2017/18 season, where he earned four wickets at 25.75.

Mustafizur has been directly signed by the Lahore side for a price of PKR 6.44 crore. He is the first bowler in history to bowl 300 dot balls in the death overs (16-20) of the T20Is, along with being one of only four bowlers globally to take 150+ T20I wickets. He was also the fastest to complete 400 wickets in T20s among seamers.

The two other players getting retained by the franchise were Sikandar Raza from the Gold category, while Mohammad Naeem was retained in the Silver category by the defending champions. The event is expected to begin on March 26 this year.
