Ravindra Jadeja also called “Sir” proved why he is called so on Monday when he smashed the winning shot for Chennai Super Kings in the Final match of Indian Premier League 2023.

The final of IPL 2023 was played between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on the reserved day for the finals (Monday 29th May 2023). However, initially, the match was scheduled to take place on Sunday, 28th May 2023 but the date had to be shifted as rain washed away the clash on Sunday.

On the reserve day as well, the rain stopped the match for a long time as Gujarat Titans, batting first played all 20 overs but the rain stopped the match at the beginning of the second over. However, it stopped pouring after a while and by the use of DLS method, it was decided that the target of Chennai Super Kings will be 171 which they will have to chase down in 15 overs.

Chennai Super Kings batters performed well but in the 13th over of the match, two wickets fell for Chennai back-to-back as Mohit Sharma dismissed MS Dhoni for a duck and Ambati Rayudu for 19 runs. This over broke the momentum for Chennai which was evident in the second last over of the game when CSK could score only 8 runs. Now, 13 runs were required off 6 deliveries in the last over. The pressure was on Chennai as only 3 runs came in the first 4 deliveries, which led to requiring 10 runs in the last two balls.

Ravindra Jadeja was on strike and he sent the 5th ball of the over by Mohit Sharma for a long six and shifted the pressure on Gujarat Titans which was evident from the fact that skipper Hardik Pandya and Sharma had a chat ahead of the last delivery of the match. However, the pressure mounted on Mohit Sharma made him do a huge mistake of bowling a low full toss to Jadeja on the pads. Sir Jadeja did not let the gift presented by Mohit Sharma go and gently directed the ball towards fine leg, which went for a boundary.
