The veteran Indian opening batter, Rohit Sharmacame into the three-match ODI series against Australia down under after not featuring in any competitive cricket for nearly six months since the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He ended with eight runs in the opening encounter at the Optus Stadium in Perth after getting an outside edge into the hands of the slip region.

Rohit celebrated a fine fifty during the second fixture at the Adelaide Oval. The right-handed batter couldn’t find the same rhythm and timing against Josh Hazlewood’s new ball spell. The experienced campaigner looked a bit scratchy at the start before playing two sweet pull shots for a couple of sixes in the same over and looked to get the same Midas back.

In the third fixture, Rohit Sharma celebrated a welcome century in the ODIs as he remained unbeaten on 121 runs with the help of 13 boundaries and three sixes at a strike rate of 96.80. His unbeaten second wicket stand for 168 runs with Virat Kohli (undefeated 74 runs) completed their chase by nine wickets with nearly 12 overs to spare.

Ritika put Rohit’s pic on her Instagram story and put a few emojis as the Nagpur-born has now made a statement about being in contention for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Kohli’s knock was also vital for keeping his spot in the future ODI side of the Blue Brigade, as their next series will be at home against South Africa in the last week of November.

Australia’s captain, Mitchell Marsh, won the toss and decided to bat first on a good batting track. Most batters got starts but couldn’t convert them to a good score, as only Matt Renshaw clubbed 56 runs in 58 balls to somehow reach 236 runs in 46.4 overs.

India lost Shubman Gill after a strong opening stand of 69 runs before Kohli and Rohit celebrated an unbeaten stand for the victory. However, due to their previous two wins, Australia registered the series victory by a 2-1 margin.
