The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to announce the new central contract list for the 2025/26 season, as both former captains, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, have reportedly been demoted from the A+ to the B category. Both players have retired from the longest and shortest formats of the game and focus only on the 50-over format. 

The reports have claimed that the BCCI has also scrapped the A+ category, now featuring three levels- A, B, and C, with A being the highest paid. Only three players, captain Shubman Gill, spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, and premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah, will be part of the A-grade.

Rohit and Kohli have been dropped to the B-group along with the star white-ball all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant. In the C category, the BCCI will have Axar Patel, Harshit Rana, Shivam Dube, and Sanju Samson in the list.

BCCI demotes Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to B-grade

Surprisingly, Ishan Kishan’s name is missing from all three categories. Among the women’s players, four players- Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma- will be part of the Grade A in the BCCI contract list. Shafali Varma, notably, is part of the B-grade.
