Rohit Sharma Father

Rohit Sharma has revealed how his father reacted after hearing his decision to retire from Test cricket. During a book launch event for Cheteshwar Pujara's wife, Sharma discussed a lot of things about cricket and his father.

Rohit Sharma's retirement from Test cricket was sudden. When discussions were running about team India's upcoming Test series against England, all of a sudden, the opener posted his retirement speech on a social media post. Like his followers all over the world, Rohit's father also couldn't believe the news and was a little bit disappointed, as said by Rohit Sharma at the event. The ICC T20I World Cup-winning former skipper informed us that his father is not a fan of the new generation, limited-over cricket; he liked the old-school Test cricket.

So, when Rohit played in the whites, it always became special for his father. Recalling an old incident, the right-handed batter further said that when he scored the 264-run innings in an ODI match against Sri Lanka in 2014, his father was not so impressed, as the innings was not from a Test match.

Sharma's comments about his father and lover for Test

"I still remember that day I scored 264 in the ODI. He was like, Okay, well played. Well done. There was no excitement from him. It's important to go out there and all that. But even if I used to get good 30s or 40s or 50s or 60s, Test cricket used to talk to me about it in detail. So that's the kind of love he had for the game. And he's obviously seen you go up the ranks," Rohit said, according to media reports.

With that, Sharma added, "My father has seen me playing a lot of cricket with the red ball, obviously. So he appreciates red ball cricket a lot. And then, obviously, he was a little disappointed when I announced my retirement. But he was happy as well at the same time. But, yeah, that's my father. And he has obviously played a huge role in wherever I am today. Without their help, it never would have been possible."
