Scared and tensed Pakistan players return home

A video has gone viral of the Pakistan players, who arrived at home with scared faces and tensed mood, after their exit from the Super 8 stage of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, after they failed to win their last fixture against Sri Lanka by a big margin, which failed to improve their net run rate (NRR).

All of the Pakistan players, including Babar Azam, Usman Tariq, and Faheem Ashraf, returned to Lahore a day after losing the real reason of the game against the co-hosts. Tariq and a few players captured pictures with some of the fans, but they didn’t look in good condition at all.

All of Pakistan’s squad members of the T20 WC have been fined US $18000 nearly each by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after their underwhelming campaign as they were eliminated, missing out on the semifinals for the fourth successive time in an ICC men’s event, which is the first such instance in their history in the game.

The fines are not for disciplinary reasons as many reports have claimed, but for what the board calls the poor performance at the competition. They were imposed immediately after their match against India in the group stage, where the show resulted in their 61-run defeat. They were told that fines may have been waived had they made it to the semifinals of the competition.

Pakistan didn’t get to the third round of the tournament as they ran into trouble after their Super 8 clash against New Zealand at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo ended in a no-result due to rain. Moreover, New Zealand’s crushing win over Sri Lanka left them relying on other results and a huge victory over Sri Lanka to sneak into the last four.

The PCB has come down hard on the players in the past, but sanctions were mostly framed as disciplinary. The current PCB administration does have form for imposing punishments in the wake of disappointments at major tournaments.
