Bangladesh defeated Oman by 26 runs in the Group B Qualifiers of the T20 World Cup on Tuesday at Al Amerat Stadium. Mohammad Naim played a fine half-century for Oman before other batsmen got bowled out by Bangladesh for 153. Oman made only 127/9 in 20 overs.

Tuesday’s win was crucial for the Bangladesh side as it keeps their hopes of the Super-12 stage of the competition high. Mustafizur Rahman (4/36)’s clever bowling Shakib-al Hasan’s striking performance helped Bangladesh repossess themselves after the shocking defeat against Scotland, as they vanquished Oman by 26 runs in their second match of the T20 World Cup qualifiers held at the Al Amerat Stadium on Tuesday.

Bangladesh batsmen made a composed score of 153 and Shakib and Mustafizur helped restrict Oman to 127/9. Bangladesh elected to bat first where Mohammad Naim (64) and Shakib (42) put up an efficient partnership of 80/3.

The collapse of the major wicket Shakib triggered their expectation of getting a total around 170. After Shakib’s departure, Bangladesh lost their seven wickets within a very short span for just 52. It was completely due to captain Mahmudullah’s 10-ball 17 that Bangladesh could cross 150. For Oman, Bilal Khan and Fayyaz were their standout bowlers who took 3 wickets each, making a striking impact on the team. Oman’s chances were almost over when Mustafizur added two more wickets(4/36) after dismissing Aqib Ilyas and Kashyap Prajapati.

Shakib was awarded the Player of the Match for his splendid batting and bowling. This win uplift their self esteem in their final Group B game, against Papua New Guinea. Many cricketers argued after Bangladesh’s previous match that they weren’t really clinical in terms of their overall performance but they did well and bounced back strongly, however their batting remains to be a major concern.
