Smriti Mandhana eyes legendary Australian Player record

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) final will be played today, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) taking on Delhi Capitals at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. It will be a big match, as both teams chase the title.

Smriti Mandhana will lead RCB in a WPL final for the second time. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals have reached the final for the fourth straight season. RCB will be hoping to lift their second WPL trophy, and Mandhana will play a key role in their title hopes.

Mandhana is also close to breaking a major RCB record. At present, Ellyse Perry is the highest run-scorer for the franchise in WPL history. Perry has scored 972 runs in 25 matches, with an impressive average of 64.8 and a strike rate of 132.96, including eight half-centuries.

Mandhana on the Verge of a Big Record

Smriti Mandhana is just 37 runs away from going past Ellyse Perry as RCB’s highest run-scorer in WPL history. She has scored 936 runs in 34 matches so far, with an average of 29.25 and a strike rate of 132.39. She also has six fifty-plus scores to her name.

The RCB captain is also close to a historic milestone. Mandhana needs 64 more runs to become the first RCB batter to complete 1,000 runs in the WPL. If she achieves this, she will be only the fifth player overall to reach the mark. So far, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Meg Lanning, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Shafali Verma have crossed 1,000 runs in WPL history.

Most Runs in WPL History

  1. Nat Sciver-Brunt (MI) – 1348 runs
  2. Meg Lanning (DC/UPW) – 1200 runs
  3. Harmanpreet Kaur (MI) – 1193 runs
  4. Shafali Verma (DC) – 1104 runs
  5. Ellyse Perry (RCB) – 972 runs
  6. Smriti Mandhana (RCB) – 936 runs

RCB Eye Second Title

Meanwhile, RCB have a strong chance to become double champions. Their men’s team won the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year. If the women’s team lifts the WPL trophy today, it will be a rare moment where the same franchise holds both the men’s and women’s titles at the same time.
