In the opening game of the Youth ODI tri-series, while South Africa U19 thrashed the hosts Zimbabwe U19 for 278 runs at Harare, South African opener Jorich Van Schalkwyk created history by becoming the first cricketer to hit a double-century in the U19 ODI or Youth ODI history.

After South Africa U19 chose to bat first on Friday's Youth ODI (July 25), they scored 385 runs in 49.5 overs, their largest Youth ODI total and ninth overall largest ODI total. In reply, Zimbabwe U19 were bundled out for only 107 runs. South Africa U19 recorded their largest Youth ODI victory (by runs) by winning it 278 runs, which was also the eighth largest Youth ODI victory margin result (by runs).

Jorich Van Schalkwyk recorded historic first double-hundred in U19 ODI or Youth ODI history

However, the major news of the day was the double-century from the South African opener Jorich Van Schalkwyk. The 18-year-old right-handed opening batter slammed the record-breaking 215 runs off 153 balls with 19 fours and six sixes. He batted till the 47th over of the innings before Shelton Mazvitorera dismissed him. 

It was the first-ever double-century in the Youth ODI history. The previous highest score record was 191 by Sri Lankan Hasitha Boyagoda against Kenya U19 in 2018.

Just three days ago, during South Africa U19's previous Youth ODI, Jorich Van Schalkwyk also scored 164 not out off 156 balls with 14 fours and four sixes against Bangladesh U19, who are the third team in the ongoing Youth ODI tri-series.
