Police have filed a chargesheet against Bangladesh ‘A’ team pace-bowling all-rounder Tofael Ahmed Raihan. He has been accused of sexually assaulting a young woman several times after allegedly promising to marry her.

The complaint says that Raihan abused the woman repeatedly by giving her false hopes of marriage. The case was investigated by the Gulshan Police Station.

Sub-inspector Md Samiul Islam said on Thursday that the chargesheet was filed under Section 9(1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. He told Cricbuzz, “The chargesheet has been filed under Section 9(1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.”

More Details from the Investigation

Investigators have collected important evidence, including the woman’s statement, hotel booking records, and medical reports. These documents support the allegations. The court will review the chargesheet at the next hearing on December 30.

Case papers show that Tofael first contacted the woman on Facebook in January. Their chats on Messenger slowly turned into what the woman believed was a romantic relationship. She continued to talk to him after he promised to marry her. The woman said that on January 31, Tofael took her to a hotel in Gulshan, introduced her as his wife, and sexually assaulted her. She said similar incidents had happened several times, and later, he refused to marry her. She filed a complaint at Gulshan Police Station on August 1, accusing him of repeated sexual violence.

On September 24, the High Court gave Tofael six weeks of anticipatory bail and told him to surrender to the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal after the bail ended. Police said he did not follow this order. During this time, Tofael travelled to Hong Kong to play in a six-a-side cricket tournament with the Bangladesh ‘A’ squad. The case is now waiting for the next legal steps as the court prepares to move forward.
