PCB did not take that comment and Team India's mentality lightly. They labelled India captain's statement as 'Political'. Team India expressing solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, did not shake hands with Pakistan cricket team players. They maintained the same gesture during the Super Four match as well. Pakistan opener also attracted controversy, when the celebrated his Super Four match half-century against India with a gesture mimicking firing an AK-47.

Defending his action, he said, " I do not do a lot of celebrations after scoring 50. But, it suddenly came to my mind that let's do a celebration today. I did that. I don't know how people will take it. I don't care about that."
