India, the defending champions of the T20 World Cup for the 2026 season, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, will begin their campaign on February 07 against the United States of America (USA) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Their biggest clash of the event will take place in Colombo on February 15 against the arch-rivals, Pakistan.

After a long time, the Blue Brigade will be without their three veteran players- Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja- who made their retirement decision after winning the last season’s title against South Africa in the final at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

India will be looking to win their third title of the competition, having also earned the same success in the maiden edition in 2007 in South Africa, beating Pakistan in the final at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg under the superior leadership of MS Dhoni. The national team became the first team to announce its squad for the T20 World Cup 2026.

All the games of the T20 World Cup 2026, including those of the Indian side, will be telecast by the Star Sports channels. All of those will show the games of the ICC competition at three different times on a single day.

Along with that, the JioHotstar will also make the live streaming of the T20 World Cup 2026 games. The final of the competition will take place on March 08 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, it may get shifted to the SSC stadium in Colombo if Pakistan qualifies for the contest.

Suryakumar Yadav, who is yet to lose a T20I series as a captain, will lead the World Cup squad. Despite not being in top form with no half-centuries coming off his bat in the ongoing year, the management has shown trust in the Mumbai batter.

They, however, couldn’t do the same for Shubman Gill, who has also gone through the same lean patch with the bat. Instead, they decided to call the left-handed wicket-keeper opening batter, Ishan Kishan, for the World Cup after the star member enjoyed a strong 2025/26 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) for Jharkhand, whom he led to the title.

In the bowling department, they have two veteran bowlers- Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh in the pace department, besides keeping Harshit Rana as the back-up option. In the spin department, BCCI picked two of their premier wrist spinners- Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy to take full control of the middle overs.

However, the most important and balanced player of the eleven will be the pace bowling all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, who has been in serious form with the bat besides contributing with the ball. Sanju Samson is expected to be the first-choice wicket-keeper opening batter of the eleven, along with Abhishek Sharma. Tilak Varma can potentially come in at number three in the eleven.

The left-arm spin all-rounder of the Indian side, Axar Patel, has got the vice-captaincy with Washington Sundar expected to be the spin all-rounder’s back-up option.
