Michael Levitt’s massive six smashes car windscreen

A highlight of the first match in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 between Pakistan & Netherlands in Colombo was a stunning moment of brashness from Michael Levitt, taking on Shaheen Afridi with a shot that left everyone in attendance shocked and buzzing when he hit Shaheen for a huge six. While the shot was an example of Levitt's aggressive approach on the biggest stage in cricket, it also helped produce an off-field incident when the six shattered the windscreen of a passing vehicle outside the ground, adding an extra dose of excitement to an already thrilling contest.

Following a short, banged-in delivery from Afriidi that was pitched around middle and off, Levitt had clearly read the length just before rocking back deeply in his crease to execute a beautifully timed pull shot. The pull shot from Levitt was hit with so much power that the ball sailed straight over deep square leg and out of the stadium without touching the roof. Some reports later confirmed that the ball travelled with such velocity that the resulting six smashed the windscreen of a vehicle driving past the ground at that precise moment. A picture of the initial shock reaction from Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha went viral on social media, taking this moment to the entire world.

Pakistan made the right choice by bowling first when winning the toss, given how well prepared the Colombo pitch was for bowling. The Dutch struggled to gain momentum with their innings, getting bowled out for 147 runs in only 19 overs and 5 balls. Scott Edwards top-scored with a fighting knock of 37 runs off 29 balls including three fours and one six. Pakistan's bowling attack shared the spoils amongst themselves, with Salman Mirza taking 3 wickets for 24 runs, Mohammad Nawaz/Saim Ayub/Abrar Ahmed all taking two wickets each.

Pakistan chase down target with three ball to spare

In response, Pakistan successfully chased down the target set by Netherlands scoring 148 runs for the loss of 7 wickets off a total of 19.3 overs to win the game and thereby take the first match of the tournament. Sahibzada Farhan anchored the innings at the beginning, scoring an impressive total of 47 runs off 4 boundaries and 2 sixes, allowing the team to remain on course during the majority of the tournament. Even though wickets kept falling at regular intervals, Farhan's steady hand made sure that Pakistan's run rate was never out of control, thus giving the team confidence to finish in style during the latter part of the innings.

Faheem Ashraf finished off the game with a phenomenal display of hitting, scoring 29 not out off 11 balls, including 2 fours and 3 sixes with a strike rate of 263.64. In terms of wickets for the Netherlands, Aryan Dutt and Paul van Meekeren each finished with 2 wickets. Pakistan now has 2 important points and will take on the USA in Colombo on the same day that the Netherlands meets Namibia in Delhi (February 10).
