Cameron Green, who is anticipated to break the bank during the upcoming auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, blamed the fact that he has been listed as a batter rather than an all-rounder for the action in December. He called it a ‘stuff-up’ by his manager, who perhaps had clicked the wrong box. 

The 26-year-old, who previously featured for the Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the league, was unavailable for the last season as he recovered from back surgery. He initially made his return to international cricket as a specialist batter before being cleared to bowl and has been used as an all-rounder in the current Ashes 2025/26 series.

“I'll be good to bowl. I don't know if my manager would like to hear this, but there was a stuff-up on his end. He didn't mean to say 'batter'. I think he accidentally selected the wrong box. It was pretty funny how it's all played out, but it was actually a stuff-up on his end.” Green expressed after Australia’s training session in Adelaide.

Cameron Green gives major update ahead of IPL 2026 auction

In his very first IPL season, Green earned massive success, having smashed 452 runs, including an unbeaten 47-ball 100, besides picking up six wickets for the Mumbai side in 2023. He was later traded to Bengaluru and dropped mid-season, finishing with 255 runs and 10 wickets in his 13 appearances.

“I'm sure I will be [watching], with a few other guys. They're always good fun to watch. It's a bit of a lottery where you might go, but also who might be in your team, so it's always been fun to watch.” Green highlighted his excitement about wondering who his new teammates would be.

The other members of Australia’s Test squad to have registered for the IPL auction are Steve Smith, Josh Inglis, Beau Webster, and Jhye Richardson. Jake Fraser-McGurk, Matt Short, Riley Meredith, and others can also find buyers in the auction. It will be a balancing act for these players to focus on both the Test and the auction, which is expected to end late at night in Australia.
