Heading into the T20 World Cup 2026 final between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the pressure was immense on their left-handed opening batter, Abhishek Sharma, who didn’t start the campaign on a good note with three ducks and only one fifty to his name, which came during the Super 8 clash against Zimbabwe.

Abhishek Sharma used his feet to show aggression against Jacob Duffy and nailed successive boundaries in the third over of the innings to get the momentum before hitting Lockie Ferguson through the line over the long-off region for a sensational six.

On the third ball of the fifth over, as India had already made their way to a successful opening stand, the Punjab-born clubbed Matt Henry for another six and picked up the low full toss off Duffy for another six over the long-on region to collect the runs.

With a boundary on the fifth delivery of the last over of the powerplay, Abhishek Sharma celebrated his fifty in just 18 balls as India marked their way to 92/0 at the end of the powerplay. This becomes the highest score in the first six overs of an innings in the T20 World Cups. Abishek Sharma, ending the opening stand with Sanju Samson, was dismissed for 52 runs in just 21 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes.
